Parent-Child Class

Our new parent-child class meets Wednesday mornings for children ages infant through 4 years and their parents.

Rudolf Steiner spoke often about the 3 R’s in educating young children. He was referring to Rhythm, Repetition, and Reverence.

Each week our morning rhythm will begin to hold all of us. Children will begin to learn that cleaning up follows playtime, and then circle happens …etc. The unfolding of the morning has a balance of breathing in and breathing out which is deeply nourishing. There will also be the seasonal rhythms brought to awareness through our seasonal table and songs shared at circle.

There is much repetition that the children will experience and find satisfying. We will repeat the verses, songs, stories, and finger plays at circle time each week allowing them to penetrate more deeply. We will tell a story with puppets and then retell it over a period of several weeks. There will also be repetition in how we wash our hands and our dishes and how we paint which is laying a foundation for later good habits.

Play is young children’s work and we can best support that work in an environment that is calm yet humming with busy, purposeful activity. When we work quietly the children can engage more deeply in their play. As we work mindfully we create an atmosphere that is both protective and nurturing making it a sacred space for all of us to be in. Reverence is good for all of us.
